Developer Drew Nations describes an 1,800-acre campus along U.S. 311 near Walnut Cove (1,000–1,200 acres developed) that 'could use up to 2,000 megawatts of electricity'; the January 2026 rezoning approval was voided after a lawsuit and the county restarted the process. Planning board recommended denial 5-2 on 2026-08-13 (WUNC); commissioners' final vote scheduled for 2026-09-14 (WFAE, 2026-09-09).
