Project description

Toronto-based Alterra Development entered a purchase agreement with the City of Marshall in October 2025 for 270 acres in the Brooks Industrial Park, roughly half of it wetlands. The project could require up to 1,400 MW of electricity, of which Alterra proposed generating about 1,000 MW from an on-site gas turbine system. No permits or construction; Marshall City Council approved a 365-day data center moratorium in August 2026 and Alterra has since dropped the on-site gas generation plan.
