About Data Center Index

A live tracker of the AI infrastructure buildout: public companies, projects, and capital flows. Updated daily.

What we track

  • 98 tracked companies across the data center supply chain: power equipment, cooling, electrical, EPC, hyperscalers, GPU clouds, semiconductors
  • 866 tracked campuses worldwide (operating, under construction, announced, permitted): 270.4 GW of capacity
  • The directory: every tracked facility, operator, and market page at /projects, the index of the world's data centers
  • 46 US state markets ranked by active pipeline at /markets
  • Sourced project-to-supplier links on the Supplier Map, plus weekly capex moves, earnings catalysts, and supply-chain signals
  • Licensing the whole dataset: /institutional

Counts are live from the same rollup the rest of the site reads, not a figure typed into this page.

Editorial principles

Data Center Index is a financial publication (research and analysis), not personalised investment advice. Three principles govern how we write:

1. Assume we own what we cover.

We may hold positions in the names we write about, and they change without notice. We don't itemize them piece by piece. When a position is worth stating we give a percentage-of-portfolio band, never a dollar amount. Read the research on its sources, not on our positioning.

2. Research, not signals.

We track capex deployed, supply-chain bottlenecks, and the public beneficiaries of the buildout. We do not issue buy or sell instructions to individual readers. Trade ideas and theses are research artifacts; what you do with them is your own decision.

3. Data accuracy is paramount.

All financial data traces to SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) or named primary sources. Estimated values are flagged. We correct errors fast and publicly when we get them wrong: email hello@datacenterindex.ai if you spot one. How rows are sourced, and the error rate our last audit measured, are on the methodology page.

The full editorial-and-risk framework (including options-trading risk, the FTC affiliate disclosure, and the publisher's exemption posture) lives on the Investment & Risk Disclosure page. Read it before acting on anything you find here.

  • Yahoo Finance: daily prices, market state, fundamentals (60-second server cache; no client-side direct calls)
  • LBNL, EPRI, EEI: interconnection queue + power infrastructure data
  • Epoch AI: satellite-tracked frontier data center facility coverage, CC-BY 4.0
  • AI Data Center Index (SheetGenius, Inc.): international facility coverage, CC BY 4.0. Every fact it pointed us at is re-verified against the operator, the press or a planning record before it stands as a source here.

Founder

Data Center Index was started in 2026 by Tyler Kirwan after fifteen years in indirect procurement at Google and Tesla. The thesis: the AI buildout is the largest concentrated capital allocation event since the iPhone, and its public-market beneficiaries are concentrated in a relatively small group of supply-chain companies that don't show up in mainstream tech ETFs. The site exists to track that, daily, in public.
